Weekly Update Dec 2nd.

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Hope once again triumphed over experience this week as more “solutions” for the European debt crisis helped reverse last week’s massive equity losses and drove markets up substantially. Coming into the week, press reports indicated that France and Germany were continuing to hone plans for tighter fiscal union among euro zone states.

Equities jumped sharply higher on that news with the DJIA soared 490 points, its largest one-day gain since March 23, 2009. However many saw the move as one of deep concern that things could be getting worse. Our good friend at PIMCO’s El-Erian warned that the fear is that central banks are acting because they feel that they need to pre-empt yet another set of potential disappointments.

The US November employment reported that non-farm payrolls and private payrolls numbers fell a bit short of expectations; however, the big decline in the overall unemployment rate fueled modest enthusiasm, as the measure fell from 9% to 8.6%, a 32-month low. While this is not a shining example of an improved job market, there was also some hope taken away from the higher back-month revisions to the non-farm and private payrolls numbers. The Dow had its second biggest point gain ever and its best week since July 2009, surging 7%; the NASDAQ jumped 7.6% and the S&P 500 increased 7.4%.

For the week we took out 4.15 points in closed trades measly 4.25 and for enough to turn a the month positive as we gave back 1.55 points for the month but for the year we are now up 317.75 points

Remember… Each point = $1 in profits x the number of shares you would normally trade… So if you would have been trading in all the positions with us with an average of 1000 shares per lot you would have theoretically made $4015 last week

Current Open Positions

Note… In some of these trades we may have already taken some profits or losses which are included in the totals above, therefore these totals reflect current open full or partial positions.
